Growth Form: Twining or sprawling herbs.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves compound. Alternate. Leaflets ovate, the terminal one usually 3–lobed, the lateral ones similarly 2(3)–lobed; Leaflets 8–20 cm long, 5–19 cm wide. Apex acuminate. Petiolate. Stipules present 2–2.5 cm long, produced above and below the point of insertion.

Flowers: Flowers in clusters, on axillary pseudoracemes 10–40 cm long with a thickened axis, bracts small caducous. Flowers papilionaceous. Corolla blue or purple to pink, standard with a yellow central patch, 15–25 mm long, keel darker in color, standard with inflexed auricles. Ovary superior, subsessile; ovules numerous; style terete (cylindrical), filiform; stigma capitate, terminal.

Fruit: Pods 4–13 cm long; 0.6–1.3 cm wide; dehiscent; villous; spirally curling valves. Seeds (5–)10–15; reddish brown with black mosaic; ovoid to ellipsoid; slightly laterally flattened; 4–5 mm long; ca. 4 mm wide; compressed; the hilum small; central.

Ploidy: 2n = 22; 24

Habitat: Low elevation disturbed areas.

Elevation Range: up to 700 m.
